Effects of Grafting Stocks on Growth , Quality and Yields of Watermelon

Abstract
1. The present experiment was conducted to compare the effects of stocks on growth, yields and quality of watermelon grafted on five squash and two guard varieties.
2. Many watermelon plants grafted on the guards and Baeckukjoa squash (C. maxima) were suddenly wilted in their middle stage of growth. They were not eligible to watermelon stock.
3. Three stocks; Sintojoa which was developed by interspecific hybridization between Cucurbita maxima and C. moschata, Seoul madi B line which is a variety in C. moschata and Keumsagoa which is a variety in C. pepo; were superior to others in grafting affinity, yields and quality of watermelon.
4. Although both varieties are same in species (C. moschata) and in locality, Seoul madi B line was a eligible but Jindojaerae was not suitable to grafting stock of watermelon.
5. In grafting affinity of watermelon to squash stocks, there is no difference between species of the same genus but between varieties of the same species.
